Screening Room Plus Plus

A few notes: Both files were intended to be the same size, however I accidentally matched my h264 encode against episode 6 and as such my mp4 file is about 8mb larger than Madman’s FLV. The h264 encode was sourced directly off the MPEG2-TS transport stream from TBS, a television station in Japan. The FLV was extracted directly from Madman’s website.

The aim of the h264 encode was to be the same filesize as the FLV while showing drastically better quality, which I think it does quite well. Both encodes are 576p, and will display as such when fullscreened. This comparison is of course meant to be viewed at fullscreen. Neither has the optimum bitrate for this resolution, however the h264 encode handles its lower bitrate a lot better and looks like a poor fansub, being of the filesize of the older SD XviD encodes, while the FLV is very VERY obviously bitrate starved. Additionally, the h264 encode is softsubbed.

I leave you to make your own conclusions about whether Madman’s stream is really acceptable.

Additionally, thank you Bocom, for QC’ing the SRT, this message, and helping me with that horrible ttXML crap.
